The currently available synaptic is build against the apt that is enabled in the repo, so if you want to test synaptic (with repomd support) against the test apt, you have to rebuild synaptic. As soon as I release the apt with repomd support, synaptic will be build against that. The benefit of the new apt is certainly that we can finally phase out the old apt repository format.
