Alternatively, I maintain a patched version of metacity that includes a
manual window placement mode.  We find it useful on machines with
multiple screens.  The RHEL version works nicely on CentOS:  we use it
all the time.

(And I'd just echo previous recommendations for Matrox hardware: our
four screen system uses the G400.)
