The presumption is that the seasoned administrator, who will always be
on hand, might know that there is the possibility that fsck will make
the wrong decisions and corrupt the filesystem beyond repair.

So, being there 24 hours a day, or able to return on 5 minutes notice,
in the worst case (one has to admire the dedication), he will whip out
his trusty filesystem debugger and satisfy himself, in another 5
minutes, since the customers are waiting at the cash registers to get
checked out, that either it would be safe to allow fsck to fix the
problems, or that it would be better to tell the customers to all go
home and come back tomorrow after he is certain that the filesystem is
safe.

This leaves the rest of us to wonder how it all applies to us, our
users, and our customers... :-(
