[CentOS] DNS resolve.conf not working

This is quite strange .... I can assure you that centos-4.4 can connect
and do name lookups.

Do you not have bind client software installed on this machine?

Is there some kind of proxy server where port 53 udp traffic might
somehow be blocked?
