We discovered that some IBM Netvistas (and other models) have a buggy
APIC implimentation which seems to have problems with the APIC updates
in recent kernel releases. Boot your system with the 'noapic' flag. It
only seems to affect machines with IDE drives, if you have SATA, SCSI or
FC drives then you are fine.
