However, the release doesn't guarantee stability , since development
is being done in the live 2.6 kernel tree. This release includes
API/ABI changes which may affect the larger organizations who have
custom operations (DoD, financial institutions, universities, etc).
The also affects the tenant of backporting bugfixes and security
updates vs not adding new features while adding hardware support, and
testing all of it to ensure that it functions exactly as it is
supposed to. When you look at the scope of operation, and the userbase
affected, 4 months doesn't seem that long anymore.

None of this stops you from using a custom kernel with your centos or
rhel environment. It just won't be supported by either community. If
you're smart enough, you can do whatever you want with your own
system. This is the fundamental beauty of open source. If you don't
like it, then change it.
