Try running a pae enabled kernel - it might help (I'm not sure what the package name for centos is 'bigmem' or something like that maybe - as in kernel-bigmem-$VERSION). (or even better a 64-bit x86_64/amd64 kernel if the cpu supports it). - Maciej
