If you start wget a second time and it finds the filename already exists it adds .1 to the new file and so on. All the older files are just failed downloads starting at byte 0. If your file isn't as long as it should (tried crc or md5?) then this simply means it's not yet completely finished. You may *now* want to use the -c switch on it.
