[CentOS] LIMITING NUMBER OF KERNEL VERSIONS RETAINED

What you want is:

   # yum instal yum-utils

followed by:

   # package-cleanup --oldkernels [--count=x]

where x defaults to "2" (i.e., keep two older kernels).
