I've used KVM only once for a non-PV guest (old Suse > System) and not with the kernel module. I think KVM is still probably at least a year away from being really usable outside of specialized edge cases. In the meantime development will shift away from the free Xen causing it to mostly stagnate and onto KVM. nate
