Well the patch maintainer told me to use the 2.6.18.0 patch, but...

I am kind of thinking this patch is for FC6's 2.6.18.0 kernel, which as 
you hint is different from RHEL/Centos' 2.6.18.0 kernel.

Oh, I WAS told NOT to use the patch for 2.6.18.1
