[CentOS] vsFTPd and hidden files - standards compliant?

Hum... not sure if it is or not rfc compliant but, as far as I can remember (14 years ago), ls/dir on any ftp server would never show "hidden" files by default...
Also, the rfcs are apparently extended with new options as time passes...
