For .pdf files I have on my HD, I usually view them with KPDF, which
is based on xpdf. One of several KDE applications I use, on GNOME.
There is an Add On or Plug in, for viewing .pdf files on Firefox,
PDFescape, which I have installed. I've only used it a couple of times
but it seems to work.
