You have definitely *not* understood the concept *at all*.

*Can* you read? Nobody wrote that "5.4 == 5.3".

If you want to stay on 5.3, then simply don't do updates anymore. 

5=current
5.0=5.0
5.3=5.3
5.4=5.4
current=5.4+updates
