No passphrase? Then why use it?

At any rate, that's not going to happen here (or anywhere I've worked):
even if I was willing to do that (which I'm not), none of my managers
would have allowed it.

I use my passphrase every morning for the private key I use. But then, I
log out at *home* every night, and the only living other creatures in my
apt are the fish.... Paranoia about black bag jobs? Not for any good
reason, but....
