With the failing drive still in the array performance tanked. I've never used SATA on cciss, that could be a cause of issues. Used several hundred 3ware controllers too, only a few issues. My own opinion is I use proper storage arrays for storage, and only use server-based controllers for the OS and basic stuff. And for my VMware systems they are all boot from SAN. Will be trying boot from SAN on CentOS 5.4 again soon, it didn't work properly on 5.2. I feel much more comfortable with separation of storage from the server for my important data. nate
