O.K., errands finished, the rebuilt rpm installed using yum --nogpgcheck 
localupdate /path/to/rpm with no problems, no dependencies.  Mail, 
preferences, plugins and helpers work as far as I've tested.  And email 
address hinting is fixed! Many thanks..
