Curiously "sh -x smb" (evoked in the /etc/init.d dir) starts it just fine
(but with no trace output). So does "sh smb". But "./smb" does not - only
starts nmbd, despite getting an OK out of both.

Figuring how to tie strace to this is beyond my skills.
