We use a slightly longer version:

nss_initgroups_ignoreusers root,ldap,named,avahi,haldaemon,dbus,radvd,tomcat,radiusd,news,mailman

I suspect, however, that the extra users listed in our setup aren't 
the cause of the hangups...
