You compare said rebuilt package to upstream's - that's simple, Johnny even provides a script to do it. 95% plus of packages rebuild perfectly first time, those are really simple. A small percentage of packages need rebuilding against the correct libraries or package versions. RPM provides you with all the tools you need to figure this out. It's laborious, it's repetitive, it's boring, sometimes it's time-consuming but it's really NOT difficult.
