To "screenshot" a single window and save it as a jpeg, e.g.: xwd | xwdtopnm | pnmtojpeg > window.jpg Under CentOS 6, xwd is part of the xorg-x11-apps package, xwdtopnm and pnmtojpeg come with netpbm-progs.
