Installed version of doxygen (stock CentOS 5.9):

Name : doxygen Relocations: (not relocatable)

Summary     : A documentation system for C/C++.

reference manual (in LaTeX) from a set of documented source files. The
documentation is extracted directly from the sources. Doxygen can
also be configured to extract the code structure from undocumented
source files.

Updated version I built (I need the newer version for a project I am working
on):

Name : doxygen Relocations: (not relocatable)
Version : 1.7.4 Vendor: Dimitri van Heesch
Release     : 1                             Build Date: Thu 07 Mar 2013 03:35:19 PM EST

This is what

rpm -hUv /extra/heller/src/RPMS/x86_64/doxygen-1.7.4-1.x86_64.rpm

tells me:

Preparing...                ##################################################
    package doxygen-1.4.7-2.x86_64 (which is newer than doxygen-1.7.4-1.x86_64) is already installed

So a package built in June of *last year*, with an lower version number is
newer than a package built in March of this year? In which universe is RPM
living in?
