Ip -6 a   shows no output

after "visual" inspection i don't see any ipv6 addresses assigned to my eth interfaces

Forcing an unload wouldn't be wise.  You must stop using the module then 
you can unload it.  Busy usually means you have IPv6 addresses on some 
interfaces -- ip -6 addr flush dev ethX.
