pstack is a Solaris command from the p-tools group. It works nicely even when
the binary is stripped. You cannot replace it by something as limited as gdb
that needs a binary compiled with -g in order to print a useful stacktrace
with function parameters.

You may be able to compile it in case that Linux includes sufficient ELF
support and procfs-2.
