If it is a module, isn't it normal that it is not built-in?
What is your error message...?
It just works here, with a conf like:
hide mysql_servers = .../.../...
CHECK_ACCESS = ${lookup mysql \
{select ... from ... where ... = '${quote_mysql:$local_part}'} \
{$value}fail}
...
localuser_virtual:
driver = accept
condition = CHECK_ACCESS
retry_use_local_part
transport = local_delivery_virtual
