By default, NO network ports are enabled on RHEL (and thus on Centos) since CentOS 6. See http://wiki.centos.org/FAQ/CentOS6 Question #2. During installation, there is a spot to "Configure" your network ports. One of the options in the configuration is to "Enable on startup" or something similar. That box is not checked by default. If you check it, you network port will usually work as you expect. Ted Miller
