I have dual GeForce 780s (Asus brand) driving 2560x1440 monitors. However, I am using the NVidia binary drivers. The problem with using nouveau is that with that much more real-estate video can bog if you are doing much beyond launching xterms. In particular, full screen video has noticeable tearing and even dragging windows across the desktop looks glitchy. To be clear, it works, just that I hate seeing the visual tearing. On another system I have a Geforce 650. It also drives a single 2560x1440 monitor without issue.
