You might have to use nomodeset--where they say hit tab for extra options, you can type that in. I too, would be curious as to what happens with a live CD if you have access to it. But were you able to install with the graphic interface or did it drop you to text? If you can boot into text mode and try to install the vesa driver, this might also help.
