Apple's very proprietary. :) Is there a computer in the house with iTunes? For example, when my wife travels, she wants videos on her iPad. I transcode them for the iPad on a Linux or FreeBSD workstation, then scp them over to her Mac, and from there, put them into iTunes and from there, into the iPad. It's less of a pain than it sounds, but is going on the premise that you have a computer with iTunes.
