Writing that last seems to have provided the clue I needed.

#dnf remove akmod_wl

[root at ws1 etc]# dnf remove akmod-wl
Dependencies resolved.
===================================================================================================================================================================================================================
  Package                                     Architecture                              Version                                                 Repository                                                     Size
===================================================================================================================================================================================================================
Removing:
  akmod-wl              x86_64                                    6.30.223.271-36.fc33                                    @rpmfusion-nonfree-updates                                    5.5 M
Removing unused dependencies:
  akmods                noarch                                    0.5.6-26.fc33                                           @fedora                                                        37 k
  kmodtool              noarch                                    1-41.fc33                                               @fedora                                                        18 k

Transaction Summary
===================================================================================================================================================================================================================
Remove  3 Packages

Seems to have done the trick. We'll see the next time I update the kernel.

Thanks for your replies.
