Interested in IA64 build.

I noticed on the SIG that people interested in other ports of interest. I'd like to express interest in the IA64 port. What is the best way to get started? I have two SGI Itanium 2 based machines. One 64 processor x 64GB SGI Altix and a 32 processor x 32GB RAM SGI Prism. They are currently running CentOS 4.8 and I would love to be able to run CentOS 5.5 on them to get them into compliance with the rest of the cluster. -- James A. CentOS-[56] Continous Release

hi, Johnny and I spoke about this a few days back and we think the best way to solve the problem around delayed srpms + waiting for isos, build and QA at the time of a point release is to get something like a 'Continous Release' repository going. The Problem: At a point release stage, users dont get updates till such time as the ISOS are ready ( eg. during the 5.6 release process ), the updates are built, QA has had time to verify content and the mirrors sync up. For new installs, this isnt an issue; however for people with existing installs this can potentially expose their installations. One solution: Export packages as they are built from the c[456]bsys into a repository that people can opt into, that would allow them to get early access to packages. Couple of notes: - it would have to be opt-in, rather than default for everyone - packages into the CR repo's will not be announced via the regular channels; the announcements will still only happen when rpms are visible in the os/ and updates/ repos. - it will not mean a lesser or a worse quality of builds, we hope to have enough automation in place that rpms will only be released into this repo once we are sure that it meets the release requirements. - this repository will run off centos.org machines initially, and will not be released to third party mirrors. The exact details of how the release-to-external-mirrors takes place, and how we manage the issues around that would be a conversation we can relegate into the future for now. - the CR repos will go-away once rpms are released in the regular process, it will not transfer into a rolling release type repo. At this stage, we are looking for comments as we prep for future release process. - KB

CentOS 6 status update (relayed from the web forum)

I expect it to pick up speed once all the current CentOS 5.6 updates have been built and pushed to the update queue. I will be discussing the 6.0 build status with Karanbir in the next few days and hopefully will have something a little less tenuous to report early-ish next week. Using https repository through proxy

Hi, for various reasons I am trying to install a private repository for Centos 5, and I would like to use HTTPS only connections. The servers must access to this repository through a proxy. In the .repo file I have configured : baseurl=https://my.repository/pkg/stable/$basearch The proxy is defined correctly. yum fails with: https://my.repository/pkg/stable/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] HTTP Error 501: Not Implemented Trying other mirror. Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: Please verify its path and try again. Using a fake proxy shows me that the request sent by yum is not correct (ie GET https://... Instead of a classical CONNECT request). I have found (thanks google) that this bug is known, seems related to urllib2.py and httplib.py from python 2.4, but I can't find a way to make it works. The patches and the solution are quite old, and does not seems to apply (or I am doing something wrong). Futhermore the bug is known from Redhat https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=208852 since a long time, and according bugzilla has been corrected in 2006 ! Well, I don't know where to look at now, so help appreciated ! -- Julien Gilles.

QA Testing - QAWeb Community Site

We now have a site up which will be the central location for the QA efforts on CentOS: http://qaweb.dev.centos.org/qa We're starting to use this for the 6.0 release, though I would consider it to still be in a "testing" phase. We need to figure out what works well here and what doesn't so that we can improve it for future releases. You'll notice as you go to the site that there is a calendar with target dates for the 6.0 release. I'm not guaranteeing that we'll make those, but that's what we're aiming for. Also, you'll see a case tracker which is where we'll track bugs and TODOs. There's one there currently which could use some attention which is the LiveCD creation. If you're interested in helping that effort, please read over the ticket and the linked sites for more info and chime in on the ticket to help (not this email thread please). Aside from that, there's not much there at the moment. I'm envisioning that the QA team will use the Notebook section for reporting on tests done, and the case tracker for reporting bugs/issues that arise during testing. This is still a work in progress, so it may be changing as we go along. For starters, we will be working on adding an RSS feed to the QA group so that people can easily track activity there without having to visit the website frequently. centos 5.5 -> 5.6 pushout

Hello, running "/usr/sbin/hardlink" on the CentOS 5.5 and 5.6 directory saves 2 GB of disk space. Not huge, but if that is done on the main server once, all rsync mirrors would pick this up. Reducing the overall mirror space needed and the size of new data for a CentOS Update release should be important. best regards, Florian La Roche

The calendar on the QA site says ISOs will be pushed to QA this Saturday. Will these ISOs be made public for testing or do I need to join the QA Team? I have some machines that I can run test installs on.
