logwatch patch

Don't remember if I already wrote about this. But ran into it tonibhg again. Logwatch as distributed with CentOS expects yum log files in different format. As result, logwatch will not report anything. The patch is really simple (and attached). Hopefully it'll be part of 4.3 (if not sooner). The upstream is not likely to patch it, since they don't distribute yum at all. Maybe upstream's upstream, but than we'd have to wait for upstream to have reason to uply upstream's upstream change ;-) I guess it's kind of bordercase. But since it applies to something where upstream and CentOS are different anyhow, maybe it is OK to introduce this change.

Compiling kernel-2.6.13...

Hi. I'm trying to use CentOS4.2 for some audio work (ie. sound editing, etc.). I found a site called PlanetCCRMA (http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/) and decided that I would give some of their applications a try (hoping that it would not affect my system greatly!). At first I tried the Fedora 3 packages (and they do work), but what I really wanted to do is to download the source packages and rebuild them for my system. I was able to successfully build their custom kernel-2.6.10-2.1.ll for my system but they have one available (kernel-2.6.13) that would run my system a little more efficiently (which I need because my system is a Pentium III and I just can't afford a new system just yet). Any how, I tried to compile the source rpm only to encounter an error to the effect of: ./include/linux/kernel.h:10:20: stdarg.h: No such file or directory Is there something wrong that I can't compile this kernel? P.S. I've also tried compiling other kernel versions that they have such as 2.6.11 and 2.6.12 (with exactly the same error message). I "googled" the problem and found that it might have to do with gcc (http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?p=1732038). Can anyone help me compiling new kernel? current kernel 2.6.14.X

Is there a location for centos 4.2 that has a current kernel compiled and ready to just install for the 2.6.14.X kernel? I am wondering if a current kernel helps with my slowww compaq r4000 amd64 machine. Thanks, Jerry

OT: Evolution folder location

I have used Eudora since v 1.35 (circa '93). For quite some time, I have enjoyed keeping each of my mail accounts' folders in totally separate directory trees. In Eudora you do this by specifying the data locatoin as part of the startup: '<program location>/eudora.exe <data location>' So I am quite spoiled. But there is no Eudora support in Linux/CentOS. So where are Evolution folders kept? And Can I do something to have each account in a separate directory structure. Oh, some more about Eudora, since perhaps v4: If you run multiple personalities in a copy of Eudora, all that mail is in a single directory structure, though you CAN have filters to drop mail into different folders. To have multple directory structures, you run multiple copies of Eudora.

subscription alert box

I am continually getting the subscription alert panel popping up??? I leave the selection on the default which is to activate and say OK. It asks me for the root password - I enter it. It keeps coming back... I have network connectivity for the laptop. Any ideas? I saw nothing in /var/log/messages. Thanks, Jerry

3ware RAID controller scripts

Hello list, I see through the archives that some people here use 3ware RAID controllers with Centos. I have picked up two 9500S-4LP controllers for future servers. I was hoping that if some people could please share their 3ware monitoring scripts with the rest of the group. What I am really hoping to do is have some setup where a cron job runs scripts to test each of the drives connected to the controller to make sure they are not going to break any time soon and then check the health of the array itself. I am used to using smartd for basic SCSI and IDE drives but not connected to this adapter. Any good souls out there want to spread the knowledge? thx, Bob
