CentOS mailserver and spam filter setup ideas & preferences

greetings, yes, Mr. Richey it was funny what everyone posted... we all need that from time to time eh? ummm on the work side... i have been trying to search on how to block alternative language spam (spanish or otherwise) and am coming up fairly blank except for Bayesian filtering... i will probably be using the www.qmailrocks.org system again yet i am interested in what others have done and are doing please... i used sendmail for years so any hints from that side would be appreciate too please? plus if someone tell me what i should be putting in my google search for trying to find alternative ways to filter spanish or other language spam please? i am almost drawing a blank! thanks in advance - rh -- Robert Hanson - Abba Communications Computer & Internet Services (509) 624-7159 - www.abbacomm.net

need kernel 2.6.10 on Centos 4.2 switch to Fedora or compile kernel from source ?

Currently I have 2.6.9-22.0.1.EL but i need 2.6.10 or higher, since: 1. I need ipt_CONNMARK 2. The servers are throwing kernel panicks on 2.6.9 and they worked fine when they were running fedora core 3 with the kernel 2.6.10-1.760 So my question is: Do i switch the servers back to fedora. Or do I compile the kernel from source. Or is there a 3rd way out. Merry christmas and happy holidays :) S

ATRpms repo question...

Hi. I'm fairly new with CentOS but have been using version 4.2 with great satisfaction (Thank you!). I've been using repos such as Dag and Dries successfully to keep my packages up to date. (I've seen many posts which allow me to believe that these repos won't change CentOS compatibility to RHEL4 or to migrate it another distro for that matter!) My question applies to the ATRpms repo (which has el4 rpms). Can I safely use this repo to "yum update" my system? When I added the repo to the yum repos (and to the up2date repos as well), I noticed more than 100 packages to be updated (some seem to be system packages like alsa-lib, autoconf, glib2, etc.) Can I update with this repo and maintain same basic system and functionality? yum-utils and yum-utils-plugins

All, We are currently testing the yum-utils and yum-utils-plugins in the dev.centos.org repository. The two main plugins that this allows that I think would be great for normal users are protectbase and fastestmirror. sata centos 4.2

I have one SATA drive with windows xp installed. I added a second SATA drive to install CentOS on. During the install, both drives are listed. If I use the auto-partition feature and deselect the drive with windows on it, only selecting the new drive, I get an error message that it could not create the partitions. The same thing happened a few months ago and I manually setup to partitions. This worked, but windows wouldn't boot any longer. The last time I tried this was with CentOS 4.0. I'm reluctant to mess up the windows install and want to dual boot. Searching the web brought up alot of info, but I'm still confused as to whether this should work. I'm using an Abit AN8 motherboard with no ATA hard drives, but an ATA cdrom drive (used for the install). Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks. mark markworkman(a)woh.rr.com ps. Interested in performance tuning

Hi all, We have a few fairly powerful servers running centos, on some of the busy webservers for example, i think we've been hitting some kernel limits set by the default installation. Limits include max open files reached, max tcp incomming connections, max processors per user... I've been messing about with changing settings in the kernel but I'm pretty new to all this. So... I was wondering what kind of tunning/tweaking you guys do to your servers to make them perform better. Cheers, Marc

Install from a USB CDrom?

OK, this is getting ridiculous. A relatively new HP NC4010 (1 year old). A maybe not the newest Storix USB CD/R-DVD drive. Of course the HP has no problem booting up off the CDrom. But then I get that blasted dialog of where are my install. So I go through the list and find a USB storage driver. It doesn't help. I do have a USB 2.5" drive case that I can put a drive in with the CDs on, but is it worth the effort? Will the install recognize that? Does anyone know were to point me to info on how to get the install to get things like PCMCIA and USB drivers installed initially?
