It turns out that the 2.6.9-5.0.3.EL series of kernels has a bug in loop back mounting file systems: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=105595 (the bug is filed against fc3 but affects the original centos 4.0 kernels as well.) The bug prevents the initrd.img in anaconda from being populated, and everything goes kaplooey as soon as the PXE boot tries to do anything with it's initrd. It would also affect rebuilt ISO images. The fix is to upgrade the host running buildinstall to a 2.6.9-5.0.5.EL kernel, which has a fix for bug 105595. CentOS 4 install problems

Hi folks, Has anyone experienced install problems with CentOS 4. More precisely anaconda crashing with some remarks regarding python scripts. The funny thing is the first installation went well. It's the re-install that fails. Although I completely changed partitioning and reformatted the drive. I had the same problem with fedora core 3 some time ago. To me it looks as if it's something to do with the anaconda version that comes together with the 2.6 kernel. Anyone who can help me out, thanks Pascal.

relation "pg_user" does not exist error when running pg_dump

Hi, I'm trying to move a postgres database to another server and I ran into some weird problems. Pg_dump command was not giving any output and the logs got filled with some SELinux errors. So I turned off SELinux completely (and rebooted). Now I'm getting the following error message: # pg_dump -U postgres database > database.out pg_dump: SQL command failed pg_dump: Error message from server: ERROR: relation "pg_user" does not exist pg_dump: The command was: SELECT (SELECT usename FROM pg_user WHERE usesysid = datdba) as dba, pg_encoding_to_char(encoding) as encoding, datpath FROM pg_database WHERE datname = 'database' Thank you for your help! vsftp 500 OOPS: SSL: cannot load RSA key

vsftpd-2.0.1-5 I am trying to get vsftpd to start with ssl_enabled=yes and not having much success. The config file works when ssl_enabled=No and does not work when ssl_enabled=Yes. I have tried setting the following: rsa_cert_file=/usr/share/ssl/certs/inet06cert.pem which is the public certificate and this: rsa_cert_file=/usr/share/ssl/private/inet06key.pem which is the server private key. Both these are in use by the apache web server as : SSLCertificateFile /usr/share/ssl/certs/inet06cert.pem and SSLCertificateKeyFile /usr/share/ssl/private/inet06key.pem respectively and I have no trouble using ssl with that service. As far as I can tell the certificates are in the right places and do the right things for apache but vsftpd chokes. Since vsftpd does not deign to log what is going on I cannot tell what it finds disagreeable about this setup. Does anyone have any idea what would prevent vsftpd from using a certificate that works with apache? Is there any documentation telling you whether tomcat5 was compiled against the 1.4.2 tree or the 1.5? You could try downloading the srpm, patching it to use the 1.4.2 java and then re-create your own rpm. Is anyone running tomcat5 from jpackage 1.6 on cento4 w/ java-1.4.2- sun-1.4.2.08-1jpp ? I'm getting weird dependencies which don't make sense, notably: Error: Missing Dependency: jdk = 2000:1.5.0_02-fcs is needed by package java-1.5.0-sun-compat I want to use 1.4.2 not 1.5 and it doesn't make sense to have jdk = 2000:1.5.0_02-fcs, unless I'm missing something? Squid caching

Anyone here running a squid caching server in transparent mode, that uses the original client ip when retreiving content from the remote server instead of its own ip. Did you have to patch the kernel to allow squid to create tcp packets with a seemingly incorrect src address Graham
