List of users on system

Hey All, Does anyone know of a way of getting a list of all the users on a system though PAM. I know that I could just list the /etc/passwd file but I'm trying to write something that is more generic and will also work for NIS or LDAP (etc) lookups. I suppose it is probably unlikely to be there as it is probably a security risk. I need to globally update the password aging settings (which I can do though chage/passwd) on existing accounts. Hello Mr. Hughes When i try to upgrade my kernel with yum check-update, yum does not display the version of the kernel that you recomend. Do you know the link where i can get it? Best regards. firstboot? CentOS 3.4

What's the best way around "firstboot" ? "firstboot" hung my machine and had to blown it up to get past it. If you bypass firstboot, what other config settings is one missing? I found the following info.... ==================================================================== # Booting without Internet Connection / Stuck on RedHat Registration during First Bootup This problem is caused by a package called firstboot. This package runs during the first boot of the machine to do some additional configurations that require your input. While most of these configuration tasks do not require a network connection, the Registration section does. The following steps will turn off firstboot: 1. Reboot your machine 2. When the grub screen displays, hightlight the line to boot RedHat Enterprise and type "e" 3. Next Hightlight the line that starts with kernel type "e" 4. Add " -s" to the end of the line and press <Enter> key. 5. Type "b" 6. Once the machine finishes booting you should have a root shell prompt that looks like sh-2.05# 7. At the shell prompt, type: chkconfig --del firstboot 8. Finally, type shutdown -r now which will reboot your machine ==================================================================== While at the console prompt should one also just uninstall the rhn-applet rpm as well? Maybe I missed some notes somewhere on this or just shouldn't worry about it and just bomb around it?????? I also noticed right after installing and logging in level 5 that it seemed that after choosing to log out, that it wouldn't log out. There appeared to be the rhn-applet running in the background holding things up. Maybe I'm just hallucinating, I've installed 3.x several times now and don't remember running into this, or have forgotten.

The process kswapd0 uses all my resources of CPU and RAM memory and the consequence is that my local queue grow up and the box go slow too. The first time i guess the problem was the version of the kernel, so i did an upgrade form kernel.i686 2.6.9-5.0.3.EL to kernel.i686 2.6.9-5.0.5.EL apparently the problem was solved but today the problem came again. I've used them in 2 industries -- defense and financial -- but there's no reason why many others can't. The priniciples to SmartCards are pretty simple. You send in a public key encrypted information (typically a symmetric key or maybe a challenge string), you get the information out. Then you can use that information as appropriate. The SmartCard is used only for 1 small operation on the _client_ for the user. (although you can also use them on the server too, for the services). And via PAM, you can route all sorts of authentication through it. I'll send you some links when I have time early next week (I'm on the road / in the air all weekend starting in a few minutes).
