Hi all, Ive done this before but the solution alludes me now. Can someone please remind me how to change the default Redhat behavior of root email being sent from root(a)server.domain to root@domain. It's something in sendmail.mc from memory. Thanks

Spamassassin/Sendmail issues

I am running a server with Centos 4.4, using a combo of sendmail-clamav-spamassassin for mail, which has been working quite well up until last night. Around 3:00am, all mail going to all users was being rejected by spamassassin. My ~/mail/.procmailrc is as follows: ======================== MAILDIR=$HOME/mail # :0 H * ^X-Spam-Status:.*Yes { EXITCODE=67 :0: /dev/null } ========================= Checking yum logs, nothing that would affect SA or sendmail was updated, so I have no idea why everything would suddenly go bananas. Clamav was updated, but that was at 5:00am, and the mails were getting bounced back starting at 3:00. I am attaching 2 maillog snips showing mail from the centos list, with one going thru as expected and the other getting bounced back per my .procmailrc file. Any help appreciated. -- TomE. The elephant in the room: Oracle

So what does everyone else think of Oracle's announcement? http:// developers.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/10/25/2316221 I kind of think that they are going to be hurting RedHat (a valuable partner if you believe their deployment numbers). Oh silly, silly Larry. I guess the only hope that we have is that it actually increases mind share of RHEL and hence broader support for it (and subsequently CentOS). Tarun

Installing on Hardware RAID - Adaptec 7890/7860

Hello everyone, I'm trying to install the CentOS 4.4 Server CD on old hardware. The hardware is a Dell PowerEdge 2300 with Adaptec 7890 and 7860 controllers. It's the first time I've done a Linux install with hardware RAID. However, I'm having trouble getting CentOS (as well as Fedora Core 6) to detect the SCSI hard drives. When it comes to the part where you choose where to install Linux, it just doesn't detect the hard drives. It shows on the hardware configuration when the system boots up and when I try to install Windows 2003 Server, the drives are detected - so I don't think it's a hardware issue. Now, the question is - do I have to initialize something on the installation process? What do I do so that I can install CentOS with this specific configuration. Dual Opteron or Dual Xeon?

I am about to lease another server to be a backup web/mail server with a replicated mysql database. The current live server is a dual Xeon 2.8Ghz. Would I do better to get another Xeon server or an Opteron based server? My concerns are compatibility of the database and the SSL certificate currently running on the Xeon machine. Are these concerns unfounded? TIA Mike

Question about printer

Hello List, I have centos 4.3 and a printer Xerox4517 attached to it via parallel port. The problem I have is after some while of inactivity I cannot print, and when I check in the control center (KDE) I see the printer status is stopped (accepting jobs). I just have to start the printer and I can get it back to normal. It is possible to configure some kind of keep alive or something like that in order the printer doesn't go to the stopped state? I will appreciate your comments, --Ivan.

DomainKey and mailing list

Hm, my previous post on subject seem to have fallen in /dev/null (can't find it even in list archives, strange). Anyhow. While on the subject of spam control. I was playing lately with Domain Key (and also newer Domain Key Identified Mail) systems. It's currently primarly used by Yahoo and Google Mail (gmail). For example, all emails from gmail.com on this list have DomainKey-Signature header. Also, all of those emails fail the verification. It is most likely due to the mailing list mangling the Subject line (addtion of [CentOS] tag) and body of the message (addtion of footer). Currently, Google uses "in testing flag" in the DNS record (as can be seen from output of "dig beta._domainkey.gmail.com txt"), so none of those emails should be rejected by anti-spam software. However, if they change the flags to instruct anti-spam software to reject emails with invalid signatures, the emails from this (and many other) mailing lists will start bouncing big time. I guess if these systems become widespread in the future, either the mailing list will need to be updated (so that it regenerates signatures with its own key, as defined in proposed standards) or mangling of subject line and the body will have to be abandoned... Terminal settings question.

Hiya folks, Maybe someone can help me with this question. I'm a long time mutt user. However in recent years, I have been a member of an increasing number of mail lists. And an increasing number of mail list users are starting to use special characters in their emails that my terminal is not understanding correctly. When it doesn't understand the character correctly, it starts to interfere with the repaints when I scroll around through messages or through the indexes. As an example, I believe it was this list where there was recently a discussion regarding Core Duo which included a fancy symbol for (tm) in the subject line. This thread was the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak and I'm now an unhappy Thunderbird user as opposed to a happy mutt user. So. Clearly I have something set incorrectly so that Mutt (and/or the terminal I am using) do not understand the special characters. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the answer as to how to fix this so that I can ditch Thunderbird and go back to Mutt? Booting kernel for installation CD

Hello, I want to install CentOS 4.4 on a Compaq Proliant DL 360. The installation fails just after booting on the first CD. Linux tries to autodetect hardware and fails with the CDROM. I noticed that CentOS and RHEL use 2 different kernels to boot the 1st CD (in isolinux folder). So I tried to replace the CentOS kernel with the one I found on RHEL CD. And it works, the kernel boots, but my CentOS CD is not recognize anymore as a CentOS CD. Why CentOS didn't recognize my CDROM? What should I modify in order to install CentOS using the RHEL kernel? laptop power management problems

I've a "small" problem with returning from suspend mode on my laptop. Under Windows XP, it works perfectly. Under CentOS, it simply freezes. The thing I'm suspecting is the hard drive not spinning. Has anybody else experienced same problem, and/or have some advice? I hoped hdparm might have something usefull, but reading the man page I haven't found anything promising to try out. Another thing I attempted is to recompile kernel with support for user mode suspend (or something like that) that I heard should work very nicely (not dependent on BIOS or anything, purely implemented in Linux). However, the rebuild of centosplus kernel with that option enabled simply failed with bunch of errors. It's an older laptop that uses APM (no ACPI). I'm not sure what debugging information might be helpfull. Kind of clueless here. I'll be happy to provide any information needed though.
