PXE boot, Kickstart NFS install and %include...

Hi Will, I saw your question in the digest version of the list, and thought you might be interested in my solution. I do have it working, and there are a couple of points that I didn't see mentioned in the other parts of this thread, or just were mentioned in passing. The next lines are modules that describe other KS parameters, display config, firewall config, disk partitions and mirroring, and lists of software groups and/or individual packages to install. One VERY IMPORTANT point to remember is shown in the "%pre" script. This is how to make the modules available to anaconda for processing. Just mount the tree where the modules live somewhere on the target system where you can tell anaconda to go read it. Here, I just create a new directory ( /mnt/ks ) and all %include directives reference that tree. Again, all paths must be specified the way that the CLIENT will evaluate them. After that, it's a snap. You can do almost anything you want as far as including other config files, additional pre/post scripts, whatever. Upgrade of Centos 4.1 with 4.2 ISO disc

Can I upgrade my Centos 4.1 system with the 4.2 ISO install disc? If so, how do I do it? It seams to want to do a full (i.e. format, wipe out old) install over everything. I do not want to lose my various configurations (e.g. kppp, kde desktop settings, etc) that I have already set up under 4.1.

system language

i believe [not sure] during installation i picked secondary language Spanish [puerto rico] i dont see it either @ desktop manage under language [ i do see spanish and spanish mexico and i dont see either under system/preferences-langague, all i see is english. how could i add another language after instalation and how could i add languages to system preferences thanks

Problems Formatting /boot With CentOS 4.3 on a DL360 G3

I have been trying to install CentOS 4.3 on an HP DL360 G3 (with dual Xeon 3.2 GHz, a Smart Array 5i, and two 36 GB disks doing RAID 1 mirroring). I'm doing all defaults (including the disk and LVM setup) and using the "Minimal" checkbox at the bottom of the Custom machine type package selection screen, so it's a very "vanilla" install. It zips through the "Formatting / file system..." just fine in a couple of seconds. When it gets to "Formatting the /boot file system..." it quickly moves up to about 90-95% complete, and then it totally locks up... the mouse quits moving, the animated cursor locks up... everything. I even left it overnight just to be sure and still the same. But, when I stick in a CentOS 4.2 CD, it runs fine. Also, I ran a media check on the 4.3 CD and it checks out fine. Any ideas? Thanks! Sorting of passwd/group files

Is there a program on CentOS which will sort my passwd/group etc. files by username or uid/gid? On Suse I can do this with a sysconfig switch and Suseconfig, is there something similar on RH-based systems? yum repository conflict resolutions

Hello, I'm setting up a test mailserver on centos4. I want to use stable rpm packages but ones that don't have conflicting lib requirements. I've got the standard yum configuration with one excdeption i've enabled the centosplus yum repository. I've read that dag's repository has a package i'm going to need courier so i figured to set that up. Here's my problem, if i then do a yum update on this box and more than one repository has a package say kernel which does it get? Or, if a package has a library dependency and that is installed and it conflicts with another, how would this be resolved? Sorry about the confusion any help appreciated. I'm also going to possibly have a need to roll out custom-made rpms not sure yet on that one, and it's been a while since i did them, rh7 i think was the last time. Does anyone have a Centos-specific howto on this not for modifying an existing srpm, but for creating an rpm from tarball? Thanks. Dave.

Using long usernames with dots in LDAP

Hi, I have configured openldap on CentOS 4.3, all my users are in ldap. I also configure idx-smbtools for managing the users. The test I'm doing is creating long usernames like this: this.is.avery.long.username All is working fine: sendmail, dovecot, idx-smbldap-tools, ceti-poppassd, chown My question is, I'm breaking some standards? php on command line problems

The installed php on CentOS/RHEL is the CGI version. This means I should be able to get command line arguments with $GLOBALS['argv'] or $_SERVER['argv']. That's how the php documentation tells and how it works f.i. on Suse. However, on CentOS I get them only when I use the -n switch to php (no php.ini). The problem with -n is that php cannot find the mysql_connect function for some unknown reason. So, how can I get to argv without using -n? Or can I add the cli version with an additional rpm? Ethernet bandwith problem ...

Hello I experienced strange problem with bandwith. My CentOS 4.3 x86_64 server is a gateway to Internet. The uplink is 20 Mbps full duplex Eth card is part of NForce4 chipset, the module is "forcedeth" As a testing tool we use "iperf" http://dast.nlanr.net/Projects/Iperf/ By test we decide downloda is only 10 Mbps (upload is 18-20 Mbps) The first suspect was ISP, so we did test in cooperation. ISP Our site FreeBSD ========= FreeBSD (ISP test machine) TCP&UDP down 20 Mbps TCP&UDP up 20 Mbps TCP&UDP up 20 Mbps TCP&UDP down 20 Mbps result: link is Ok The second and final suspect was our gateway: ISP Our site FreeBSD ========= CentOS 4.3 UDP down 20 Mbps UDP up 20 Mbps UDP up 20 Mbps UDP down 20 Mbps BUT TCP down 20 Mbps TCP up 20 Mbps TCP up 10-12 Mbps TCP down 10-12 Mbps SO: there is an problem with TCP ???
