Script to kill dictionary spam attacks

Request: Correct procedure on how to build a custom kernel on Centos

This topic seems to be a perennial question. So I don't ruffle any feathers like in http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-devel/2006-February/001400.html could someone point once and for all to an authoritative guide on a complete/proper/correct procedure on building and installing a custom kernel using the rpmbuild method rather than the traditional method. T.I.A.

cannot install centos, but fedora works

I am able to install fedora core onto an old p700 box with SCSI RAID 1 array, but while trying to install CEntOS I get an error about the installer not being able to find the disks. Moving on. --

convert from fedora with reiserfs to centos-4.3

I upgraded a box running fedora core 2 to Centos-4.3 The fedora core box has a reiserfs file system, which I am assuming is not supported in the CentOS kernel. I tried the unsupported kernel but I still get a kernel panic. Can I either convert to ext3, or possibly install something that will make my reiserfs filesystem work ? --

Centos 4 on Tyan S2895 with sata

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone out there has got Centos 4 installed on a Tyan S2895 (that's a Thunder K8WE) motherboard on sata disks? I know about the forcedeth bug, but I'm getting installation hangs at random spots in the install, even off CD, in what seem to be nv_sata timeout problems. SuSE 10 is rock solid on the same box, so I don't think it's hardware, and I've tried two different sets of disks to rule out disk problems. Latest bios updates - tried both 1.02 and 1.03. Any success stories out there? Cheers, Gavin

Need help installing rrdtools

I am trying to install OpenNMS on Centos 4. The problem I am having now is I need to install rrdtools 1.2.7. Only problem is it doesn't come with a .bin or .rpm file to install it with. I have been trying to find someone who can help me install this program. If someone out there has successfully installed it please let me know so I can find out how you did it. Thanks

CentOS 4.3 and apt-get

I see very clearly how yum accesses the CentOS repos when I look in /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo But I don't see any equivalent file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d All I have in that directory are list files like dag.list dries.list freshrpms.list ...etc.. How does apt-get know where to look for CentOS repo stuff?
