Anyone ever implimented cfengine on 4.x ? I am just looking for background and if there are any traps to fall into? thanks

GRUB issue

Hi all, I have created a custom CD of centos. The CD instals properly but doesn't ask for ethernet card configuration, further when installation completes and system reboots then first the GRUB comes and on selecting the kernel 2.6.9 it shows the error Filesystem type is ext2fs, type is 0X03 Error 15 ........... Press any key to continue And on pressing any key it reboots. Can anybody help ? Regards Imtiyaz

Building php-5.1.2-5 and php-pear-5.1.2-5 rpms

I want to build the php-5.1.2-5 and php-pear-5.1.2-5 from the fedora devel SRPM's on CentOS 4.3. Whilst the php-5.1.2-5 builds from the php-5.1.2-5 SRPM, the 1.4.6-2 php-pear builds a php-pear-1.4.6-2 instead of php-pear-5.1.2-5 What am i doing wrong? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? CentOS 4.3 Upgrade vs Clean Reinstall

I upgraded via yum on a previously cleanly installed 4.2 and hhave had no issues. No dupliicate rpms. Has anyone had problems? I suppose had this been a 4 -> 4.1 -> 4.2 -> 4.3 this would be different. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! I point to the following *not* as a license for more experienced folks to become inordinately rude or terse with those who don't stick closely to the guidelines presented, but in the hope that some of the newer folks may have been ignorant of some of these "net common courtesies". My goal is that we'll see "better" questions than some of what we've had. It starts here http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#asking and goes through here Don't ask people to reply by private e-mail There is more of interest and there are postings on the web that are shorter and more focused on the "do your homework and reports pertinent data", but I'm getting the feeling that a general reminder is in order. Works like a charm. I pulled a spec file off of dag, and modified it for my purposes, and built an RPM for it. There are still plenty of traps, but no more than with cfengine on any other system =). getfullcomps.py

Just started trying to build Centos 4.x based distros (was doing this with Centos 3.x before), and I noticed that getfullcomps.py is gone from the comps-extras package. Is this no longer necessary? How does one automate the building of the comps.xml file now? Any pointers to new docs, because the old ones seem to still mention getfullcomps.py? Thanks...james

Hi there. Installed CentOS4 and was going through the process list and noticed this entry. root 2440 2428 0 12:18 ? 00:00:00 x 1 0 What is it and why does it have such a mysterious entry? Thanks.

Indiana timezone changing

I have a couple questions... I am in Indiana and our time zone is changing. I used to choose America/Indiana/Indianapolis as the zone and we are changing to Eastern. Question 1) Is there a command line only way to change my timezone? I dont have access to X to run system-config-time. Doing a "system-config-time --help" or "system-config-time -h" did not give any information. Question 2) If the server is setup for NTP I presume I still have to change the time zone. Since Indiana-East is going away are the NTP time servers smart enough to know that Indiana-East is now just Eastern? Basically - do I have to change anything on my machines or does NTP just do it for me? Thanks, Jerry

mdadm and smtp yum update issue

greetings i have a newer centos 4.2 server using qmail for smtp the /etc/yum.conf has this in it exclude=spamassassin exim postfix sendmail so when i do a yum update to go to 4.3 i get this --> Running transaction check --> Processing Dependency: smtpdaemon for package: mdadm --> Finished Dependency Resolution Error: Missing Dependency: smtpdaemon is needed by package mdadm how should i procede from here? evidentally mdadm wants a known smtp function as i do not get this error until i stuff exim and postfix and sendmail in the exclude should i undo exim in /etc/yum.conf exclude and then after exim is installed then remove it? with rpm -e --nodeps exim or another way? yum remove exim or? thanks in advance... - rh -- Robert Hanson - Abba Communications Computer & Internet Services (509) 624-7159 - www.abbacomm.net
