Hey Guys, Anybody know of any decent accounting software that runs on centos? Web or App based is fine.. Pref open or free.. Thanks, Wayne

X86_64, Groupinstall KDE fails

I have an Athlon/64, 1 GB RAM, 80 GB IDE system and I'm intending to use it for combination workstation/Dev server duties. I've gotten a consistent failure when I try to groupinstall KDE. This is a clean, minimal install of CentOS 4.3/64, (installed with all optional packages unchecked, so only disk 1 was needed) I haven't even done a yum update, but that doesn't change anything when I try it. (I've now wiped it twice to try to figure out what I'm missing. Both packages are already installed, with the versions complained about... I've tried running rpm --rebuilddb, and yum clean all to no positive change. What's going on here? Kernel RPM

Hi All, I have posted same subject before also . i got suggestions . It worked also . I using source code of kernel 2.6.9( ie is in tar format) which is applied all the patches . I tried to make the rpm of kernel out of this but it's not creating initrd.img .Without this system is not booting . Is there any way do this ...? Thanks in advance Regards juliet

weird install issue

this existed in 4.2 and i hoped it would magically fix itself in 4.3, but no such luck. if you do a custom install and select the everything package (i'm lazy and don't care if i burn disk space :-), when it gets to cd 4, it will suddenly need disk 1 again to install the comps package and then go back to 4 for the rest of the install. it seems like the comps package would have been installed very early on in the process, so this seems very odd. i can look at the install log if that would do someone some good.

Yum curiosity: --obsoletes with update, useful or not?

Got a wild hair this A.M. and decided to inundate my two brain cells. "Man yum" includes this: update If run without any packages, update will update every currently installed package. ... assumed to be a shell glob and any matches are then installed. If the --obsoletes flag is present yum will include package obsoletes in its calculations - this makes it better for distro- version changes, for example: upgrading from somelinux 8.0 to somelinux 9. Hmmm. Cell number 2 doesn't forget much. I recall several admonitions that major upgrade should take the form of a new install. E.g. CentOS 3* to CentOS 4*. The paragraph above *seems* to indicate that a major upgrade might be doable? Moreover, it prompts the questions: 1) "What are the downsides, if any?" 2) "Has anybody tried it recently?" 3) "Have any results to report?" No pressing need, just curious. TIA -- Bill

I have tried to configure an ftp server on one of my machines, I want to all authenticated users to be able to upload files to the apache web root /var/www/html. This machine is behind a firewall/router and will not be exposed to the outside world. I want to know if someone can point me to a good tutorial on setting up one of these servers, I have read the man pages and googled for possible configurations and I still have not been successfull. freenx-0.5.0-8.c4.noarch.rpm is in testing

We have created a new version of freenx (freenx-0.5.0-8.c4.noarch.rpm) and moved it to the testing repo. This is based on the code displayed at the LWE in San Francisco ... http://lwn.net/Articles/146825/ http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/8489 (though it is not officially released as stable by the freenx people) This version should handle printing and reconnecting to running sessions much better. Running sessions (on the nx server, that is the machine you are connecting to) are stored in "/var/lib/nxserver/db/running" ... if you have been disconnected in the past, there may be several old sessions out there that need to be cleaned up ... go remove the sessions that are invalid (all of them in that directory if you do not have any open sessions to that server). There is no real auto cleanup of these if your session breaks ... I will try to develop something that works later. In the meantime, if you session list is to big and some are dead, you will have to delete them manually. This version also allows rootless mode, which is faster compression. kernel panic - spin_lock

Guys, one of our boxes just died with the following error: kernel panic - not syncing: fs/block_dev.c:396: spin_lock (fs/block_dev.c:c0361c0) already locked by fs/block_dev.c/287. The system's an LVS running CentOS 4.3: centos-release-4-3.2 kernel-2.6.9-34.EL ipvsadm-1.24-6 heartbeat-1.2.3.cvs.20050927-1.centos4 I note that there's a bug report filed related to CentOS 4.2: http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=1201&nbn=7 I was just wondering, would you like a bug report filed for this? PHP 5.0.4 and PostgreSQL [solved]

PHP 5.0.4 and PostgreSQL

Hello list. Does anybody of you use PHP 5.0.4 from "CentOS plus" repo and PostgreSQL 8.1.x from www.postgresql.org (rpms for RHLE 4 AS)? (php-pgsql.rpm I have installed) On my machine PHP don't connect to PostgreSQL. Anybody of you set it up? On the other server I use PHP and PostgreSQL included into CentOS 4.x and it works fine.
