Setting default paper size in OpenOffice

Hi, I'm using the default OpenOffice.org that ships with CentOS 4.3. In OO, I launch "Printer configuration" and set the default paper size from "US Letter" to "A4". OK, and then OK again. But the settings don't seem to be saved, they revert to US Letter every time, which is rather annoying, as I don't set this up for me (but for a bunch of Joe Users), and I can't expect them to manually configure the paper size everytime they want to print something. Any suggestions? Niki Kovacs

rsync help

I'm attempting to do an rsync of a whole bunch of files from the machine here to the remote machine. Both user directories have identical file structure, except the remote machine is way behind on keeping up with the local machine. When I tried to run the rsync command from the current directory of "/home/rob/amet/versions/current/archinve/npa/R- save" Below is the command and output. Can somone tell me what I'm doing wrong, or perhaps the correct way to do this? There does not need to be a daemon running on the remote machine does there? # rsync -t R-save vortex:/home/rob/amet/versions/current/archive/npa/R- save rsync: link_stat "/home/rob/amet/versions/20051028/amet/archive/npa/R- save/R-save" failed: No such file or directory (2) rsync error: some files could not be transferred (code 23) at main.c (892) [sender=2.6.8] Thanks..... Damaged tags in XMMS

Hi, I just copied 15 GB of Music from my Slackware install over to my laptop running CentOS. Everything's running fine, except a few minor quirks. About 10 to 15% of the 4.000 songs in my collection seem to have broken ID3 tags in XMMS. In the playlist window, there are only truncated fields of a few random letters appearing. But when I right-click on one of these songs, the ID3 info is displayed correctly... that is, in the ID 3 window. I can save as much as I can, the info in the ID3 window stays the same. Any suggestion for that? Niki

Set default MPlayer -vo?

Hi, I'm running CentOS 4.3 with the rpmforge and kbs repos enabled. I just installed MPlayer and tried it. It has a small problem. When I want to view myfile.wmv, Mplayer displays the following error message: "Error opening/initialising the selected video_out (-vo) device." So I opened a console, took a peek at the various options (mplayer -vo help), and then the movie worked just fine with mplayer -vo x11. Q: how do I make this option my default, so that when I double-click on a .wmv or .avi in Nautilus, it gets opened with the -vo x11 option? I thought about creating an alias, but there must be some more orthodox way to do that. Cheers, Niki Kovacs

Sound cards for Centros

What sound cards are recognized by Centros? I have installed it on an old 400MHz IBM Aptiva that has Crystal Audio built-in. However it does not seem to recognize that, nor a Sound Blaster, nor a Sound Blaster 16 that I have tried. Any cheapo cards that it would recognize? Mike

source rpms

how can i get the source rpms for the packages installed on my centos 3.6 server? is there a certain repositories i have to add to my yum.conf? Im trying to setup a filtering program "smartfilter" and they want me to point to the source for squid, which i cant seem to find. can anyone shed some light on this for me? someone i was talking to said that centos strips out the source to keep the bulk down, but i was hoping that wasnt the case. thanks for any help. Nick

user trubles

I have a mail server with sendmail, last night i send a mail to an user and aparently was received(don`t back rebooted) baut today since this morning, all mails sended to tah user are rebooted and the reason in the reboot mail is "host unknown" but the other users don not have any problem with their mail accounts. i try to delete and re-create the user, but the same situation. what could it be? ----------------------------------------------------------- Sign up and get your 30GB webmail at www.30gigs.com now!

Buy CentOS CDs/DVDs in France?

Hi, I'd like to buy a set of CentOS CDs: 4CDs + 1 DVD. I'm on dialup, so this is the best solution for me. Plus, usually CDs from the store are better quality and tend to last longer in my humble experience. Normally I buy my CDs at ikarios.fr, but strangely, they only sell Centos 3.7 CDs. I mailed them about 2 weeks ago, but got no answer. Anyone knows where's the best place to get these when I'm in France? Cheers, Niki Kovacs
