Evolution bug in CentOS 4.3

Hi Everyone, A client has an email in Evolution with an attachment: CNH_Specialized_Bid_Letter_Web_Ex_#1.doc When the file is opened directly from Evolution, OOo Writer complains: /home/rob/.evolution/cache/tmp/evolution-tmp-inF1Pe/CNH_Specialized_Bid_Letter_Web_Ex_ does not exist. But, the user's Evolution temp cache has a copy of the file: -rw-rw---- 1 rob rob 30208 Jun 23 00:43 CNH_Specialized_Bid_Letter_Web_Ex_#1.doc This problem appears to be similar to this bug: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341482 It's not exactly the same: the effect is, though. I want to see if the posted patch will work. But, I'm also wondering if this is on the upstream distro's radar for U4. I search their bugzilla - didn't find anything. Anyone else run into this? command to echo size of images

All, Is there a command line program in centos to echo back the size of an image (gif,jpg,png)? I did see that file image.jpg sometimes works but reports the wrong image size. I see xview image.jpg reports the correct size but I dont want to see the image just get its size. Thanks for any suggestions. Jerry

Need help configuring additional serial ports

I installed a 2 port serial PCI card on a system running CentOS 4.3, but I can't get the additional serial ports to work. The card I used is from StarTech (http://www.startech.com/Product/ItemDetail.aspx? productid=PCI2S550&c=US). When it is detected by kudzu, it shows up as a "NetMos Technologies PCI 9835 Multi I/O Controller". I've included the output of "lspci" and "cat /proc/pci" below. The (very sparse) instructions for Linux support for this card state that you should look for the string "serial port x" in the contents of /proc/pci, and then use that information with the setserial command to configure the port as follows: # setserial /dev/ttyS2 port 0xc000 uart 16550 irq 11 baud_base 115200 The problem is that I can't find the equivalent of the "0xc000" and the IRQ on my system in the contents of /proc/pci. Here is what the built-in, working serial port looks like: # setserial -a /dev/ttyS0 /dev/ttyS0, Line 0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4 Baud_base: 115200, close_delay: 500, divisor: 0 closing_wait: 30000 Flags: spd_normal skip_test auto_irq Any ideas how to get these serial ports working? Installing from a usb drive

Hi, all. We've make custom isos of CentOS and having trouble during the installation. Here's what we did : Add our rpms to CentOS/RPMS Add a folder of scripts and two kickstart files to the base directory run "pkgorder /path/to/base i386 CentOS > /tmp/foo.txt" run "genhdlist --fileorder /tmp/foo.txt /path/to/base" rerun the pkgorder command Add a custom group to CentOS/base/comps.xml run "buildinstall --pkgorder /tmp/foo.txt --version 4.2 --product "CentOS" --release "BAR_V1" --discs "BAR" --prodpath CentOS --comp BARv1 /path/to/base" change isolinux/isolinux.cfg to add two labels, one for each ks file run "mkisofs -o foobar.iso -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -R -J -v /path/to/base" to generate the DVD iso. This iso works fine when we burn it to dvd and install from it but when we boot from DVD and select the kickstart file that installs from a USB drive, we get the following error : "trying to mount already-mounted image!" Hosed CPAN installation on CNT4.x

Hi: I've hosed my CPAN installation and need to get CPAN.pm back. What do I need to install via yum to get it back? I have tried: yum -y install perl-libwww-perl yum -y install Omni-foomatic perl-XML-Parser system-config-printer system-config-printer-gui perl-libxml-perl foomatic perl-libxml-enno perl-XML-Dumper perl-XML-Encoding Without success. x86 uniprocessor 4GB memory

Hi there, I'm currently using CentOS 4.3 (Server edition) in a HP DC 5100 with the IntelR 915GV chipset, powered by a PIV 3.0GHZ. Now I'm facing a problem, with memory. I got myself 4GB of memory, the system bios detects it correctly, but in Linux can only see around 3.5gb memory. With the default kernel-smp (I use hyperthread) or with kernel-hugemem , I have the same results. Is there any way to workaround this issue? Thanks in advance, Bruno Sousa

Squirrel mail search tool fails

When I do a search in squirrelmail, it will start giving several results, but then fails. I use squirrelmail via https. maillog reveils: file message-body-search.c: line 391 (message_body_search_ctx): assertion failed: (input->v_offset <= part->physical_pos) Squirrel mail browser interface reveils: ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server. Query: SEARCH CHARSET UTF-8 ALL TEXT {4} "text" Current versions (all up to date) squirrelmail-1.4.6-5.el4.centos4 dovecot-0.99.11-2.EL4.1 openssh-server-3.9p1-8.RHEL4.12 Can someone point me in a direction? I just cut-over to CentOS4.3 (fresh install) from FC1 and this is the first bug which I have never seen before. If you have an AGP video card which you aren't actually using you can try selecting the minimum possible AGP apperture (window whatever) size (possibly even disable it?). This might help. Also removing the AGP card and using a junk 1-8MB svga card will also possibly work. In my experience the linear framebuffer of video cards is by far the greatest memory hog these days. Cheers, MaZe. Can someone explain why this: find . -depth -print0 | cpio --null -pmd /tmp/test will copy all files in and below the current directory -and- this: find . -depth -print | grep -v .iso$ | wc -l will count all the non-iso files -and- this: find . -depth -print | grep .iso$ | wc -l will count *only* the iso files -but- this: find . -depth -print0 | grep -v .iso$ | cpio --null -pmd /tmp/test doesn't copy *anything*? Any suggestions for a work-around would also be most welcome.
