What is hald doing?

The hald daemon is the second largest consumer of CPU time on my CentOS v4.3 system. Is there a way to determine what it is spending all this time on? Thanks.

Apache problem

hi I maintain 10 webservers which is used for add delivery using PHP.sometimes when the load is high my apache process suddenly dies & i restart apache. i find the following errors in my /var/log/messages/ server1 kernel: audit(1150892521.827:18474474): avc: denied { write } for pid=28135 comm="httpd" name="php-mmcache" dev=sda7 ino=2146317 scontext=root:system_r:httpd_t tcontext=system_u:object_r:var_t tclass=dir i think the above one is something related to selinux.so i disabled selinux stopped iptables & disabled firewall. /sbin/fixfiles restore but still i get the above error message in my /var/log/messages how to fix this??? when i run top d 1 i see a few Zombie process of httpd 12198 apache 16 0 0 0 0 Z 3.0 0.0 0:00.09 httpd <defunct> Os Centos 4.2 X86_64 bit Apache 2.0.52 below i am attaching the output of test.php which is in test.zip how can i fix this problem .. thanx & regards kishore chowdary

Also, there should be no reason to stop/disable the firewall to stop these messages - I strongly recommend you re-enabled it ASAP. Back-leveling error?

This is all related to my struggles with Asterfax and libtiff. I rpm -U to libtiff 3.8.2 and I am still having troubles. So I decided to go back to libtiff 3.6.1 (oh and libtiff-devel that seems to be a prerec). So after a bit of playing that did not seem to do anything, I figured out to: rpm -U --oldprogram libtiff-3.6.1-8.i386.rpm libtiff-devel-3.6.1-8.i386.rpm and this seemed to work: rpm -q libtiff libtiff-3.6.1-8 But now things seem to be even more 'broken' if possible. Did I do the backleveling the right way? How do I check?

Conflict installing openssl.i386 with openssl.x86_64 on a x86_64 system

Hi Everyone, I've got a system running CentOS 4 x86_64 and have some i386 packages (e.g. Firefox) installed, too. I knew when I started out that this wasn't ideal, but worked nonetheless. And, so far, it has. I'm (and my client) are happy! A couple of days ago I updated the server from U2 to U3 (it's not a public system, and runs some critical software...U3 couldn't go in right away). Everything appeared to be going well until it came time to install the updates, when yum barfed: Transaction Check Error: file /usr/share/man/man1/asn1parse.1ssl.gz from install of openssl-0.9.7a-43.8 conflicts with file from package openssl-0.9.7a-43.8 file /usr/share/man/man1/nseq.1ssl.gz from install of openssl-0.9.7a-43.8 conflicts with file from package openssl-0.9.7a-43.8 file /usr/share/man/man1/s_client.1ssl.gz from install of openssl-0.9.7a-43.8 conflicts with file from package openssl-0.9.7a-43.8 file /usr/share/man/man1/s_server.1ssl.gz from install of openssl-0.9.7a-43.8 conflicts with file from package openssl-0.9.7a-43.8 file /usr/share/man/man1/sslpasswd.1ssl.gz from install of openssl-0.9.7a-43.8 conflicts with file from package openssl-0.9.7a-43.8 Looks like the x86_64 and i386 openssl packages install their man pages to the same location. I was able to complete the update after excluding openssl. I'm not sure how other packages handle this, but it looks like a bug. However, I found a mail list thread where Karanbir or Johnny (not sure which one) indicated that this had been fixed. Well, the update is not going in for me, so something is fubar. Anyone else dealing with this? Is there a workaround or fix I'm not aware of? I'd appreciate any pointers. PCI-X Sata Raid Controller

Does anyone have any suggested PCI-X Sata Raid Controllers which are natively supported in Centos 4.3, the 2.6 kernel. I guess either with the new megaraid or aacraid drivers? Thanks for the help, Bryan Shelton

can't change login screen resolution

After boot up, on the login screen, I can't seem to find how to change the resolution. I've have it set at one resolution after login for all users, but still, the login screen remains the same. It's a bit annoying because I get a warning message from my monitor of incorrect settings and sometimes it wacks out. I think the refresh rate is what is causing it. Thanks.

yum install nagios, adding dag repository

Hi, I'm running an Opteron 64 bit server, and in an effort to re-join it to my nagios monitoring, I have tried the install nagios via Yum. When I type: yum install nagios, or nagios-nrpe, or nagios-plugins, I get: "Nothing to do". as output. In wanting to add the DAG repository to my machine, the documentation i've come across seems vague. Can someone advise me on either of these issues? I have come across the following HOWTO, but it kind of jumps around a bit, and the if/else logic is too hard to decipher. http://www.maxsworld.org/?page_id=115 Any help is most appreciated... -karlski
