using windbind to connect to AD

Hello, After a couple of years using Samba as a DC I figured I would start working it the other way around. I'm using CentOS, the latest and tried to use the GUI manager. I am sort of confused as there are acutally 2 windows. I filled out both and supplied the name of the AD administrator. Do I just put the AD domain in there with .realm after it? (eg testdomain.com.realm)? I tried with and without I then tried to login with an AD user, but used his username only (eg user1) but it didn't work. I am assuming that with this type of authentication, I will be able to login with user's from the AD directory... Has anyone worked with this setup before? Thanks, James

I only now joined the list, hello all! I saw in the MARC archives that the release of CentOS 4.4 was discussed, and promised to be about 2 weeks after the release by RH. OT Clarkconnect Firewall/Router updates

Hello All, I have several Centos boxes I am very pleased with. I run another box with the Clarkconnect distribution as a dedicated firewall. Since the Clarkconnect distro is built from Centos I was wondering if anyone knows what needs to be installed on this box so that I could use yum to keep it up to date? Apologies if this is not the proper venue for this question. -Arkwolf

Configuring Login to access Samba

Hi, I'd like to use CentOS in my machines but I'd like to login using the same user/pass. Is it possible to configure KDM/GDM/whatever to check the user/password in my local samba. I would not want to create and mantain users in sync with a central passwd/shadow. Thanks.

Anyone gotten qemu to operate in bride network mode on centos 4

I have been asking on the qemu list how to get bridge network mode working under centos 4... To no avail. The following script is what I have tried as my /etc/qemu-ifup. It supposedly worked for fedora. #!/bin/sh # # qemu_up # # script to bring up the tun device in QEMU in bridged mode # # This script bridges eth0 and tap0. First take eth0 down, then bring it up with IP 0.0.0.0 # /sbin/ifdown eth0 /sbin/ifconfig eth0 0.0.0.0 up # # Bring up tap0 with IP 0.0.0.0, create bridge br0 and add interfaces eth0 and tap0 # /sbin/ifconfig tap0 0.0.0.0 promisc up /usr/sbin/brctl addbr br0 /usr/sbin/brctl addif br0 eth0 /usr/sbin/brctl addif br0 tap0 # # As we have only a single bridge and loops are not possible, turn spanning tree protocol off # /usr/sbin/brctl stp br0 off # # Bring up the bridge with IP 192.168.1.10 and add the default route # /sbin/ifconfig br0 192.168.1.10 up /sbin/route add default gw 192.168.1.1 #stop firewalls /sbin/service firestarter stop /sbin/service iptables stop Does anyone have qemu working in a bridged network mode and can share... connecting linux console using serial port (NOW PPP)

Alex, in this case of setting up PPP on my linux, do I have to run "s0:2345:respawn:/sbin/mgetty -D -n 2 -s 115200 /dev/ttyS0 " in inittab file? First you'd uncomment that /AutoPPP/ line in login.config file. Depending if you want to allow or not direct login on modem line, you'd eiteher leave or comment out the "/bin/login" line at the end of a file. Than you'd need to install pppd and configure it. You'd go to /etc/ppp. Edit options and options.ttyS0 files, and probably take a look into chap-secrets and pap-secrets (by default they should be setup as fallthrough to /etc/passwd, unless you changed them). You might put something like this into options file: lock crtscts proxyarp 1.2.3.4: And something like this into options.ttyS0 file: :1.2.3.5 Change 1.2.3.4 to be the IP address of the server (box where the modem is). 1.2.3.5 is the IP address that will be assigned to the client that connected from ttyS0. Make sure both addresses are on the same subnet. And you should be set to go.

Connecting CentOS to IPSEC VPN (Checkpoint FW1)

Hi, Does anyone have experience using IPSEC on CentOS in order to connect to vendor IPSEC-based VPN products (specifically Checkpoint FW1) ? Is the included IPSEC implementation sufficient, or do people have to rely on OpenSWAN or FreeSWAN ? I'd be testing tomorrow and I'm interested with experiences others have had and things to look out for. FW: FDISK Help please in Centos 4.3

Hi, Is it possible to create one raid volume of 3.3 TB (9550SX-8lp X WD5000YS - 8nos) and create a file system with ext3? (CentOs4.3 64bit) The maximum I am getting is 1.24tb and fdisk returns no more space available. But when I say fdisk /dev/sda it list full size of 3.3 TB. But I can not create partitions more than 1.24TB. Any idea? Thanks Rajeev

Flash streams sound distorted

Hi gang! I'm hoping for some advice here,... I've been having this problem for a while and have come to the point where I need someone else's guidance/suggestions/help... I'm running a Cenotos-4 system. It was originally a TAO Linux-1 system, that was upgraded to Tao-4, and subsequently switched (via yum, using the procedure created by the Tao maintainer with--I assume--assitance from the Centos maintainers) to Centos-4. Ever since the upgrade from tao-1 to tao-4, Flash audio is horribly distorted. I've reinstalled the flash-7 plugin more than once, most recently today. Today I also went through the entire system making sure there is only a single copy of the files flashplayer.xpt and libflashplayer.so, and that they are the newest ones from today. What brings it to a head today is that my local NPR station appears to have switched to providing their audio stream as flash. At least I am no longer offered any choice (it used to allow us to choose windows media, real, or quicktime, all of which worked with mplayer), flash being what I get. I'm open to suggestions.
