PHP5/CentosPlus big mess.

Ok, so if you tuned in last time, I couldn't make the installation/upgrade of PHP5 from the Centos4 CentOS Plus repository work. Not one to be easilly dissuaded, I shapened my shovel and dug myself a hole. So using the exclude= lines in the repository config file backfired big time: even if I excluded the exclude= lines, yum continued to exclude the files on those lines, and only deigned to update three php files. Thus, my user complained that the mysql pieces were not there. So what I did was install CentOS 4 fresh into a VM, update it, then I just did a: # yum --enablerepo centosplus --exclude php-pecl-ssh2 --exclude php-eaccelerator --exclude php-pear-Image-GraphViz --exclude php-pear-PHPUnit2 install php php* (see the explanations for the --excludes on http://wiki.xdroop.com/space/CentOS/4/Updating+to+PHP+5) Please with my illusion of progress, I then copied the RPMs from the local cache to my target machine, and installed them with # rpm -Uvh --nodeps --replacefiles *rpm The --nodeps was because some other package not otherwise updated depended on the previous version of php-pear, and the --replacefiles was because rpm was complaining that some file owned by mysql-4 conflicted with the mysql-5 package even though it was going to be "upgraded". Now, my users are complaining about errors like: [28-Sep-2007 10:32:29] PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/modules/fileinfo.so' - /usr/lib/php/modules/fileinfo.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 [28-Sep-2007 10:32:29] PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library '/usr/lib/php/modules/apc.so' - /usr/lib/php/modules/apc.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 [...repeat for each file in /usr/lib/php/modules/...] However, those "files" are there: # ls -l /usr/lib/php/modules/fileinfo.so /usr/lib/php/modules/apc.so -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 75652 Nov 24 2006 /usr/lib/php/modules/apc.so -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 10580 Nov 24 2006 /usr/lib/php/modules/fileinfo.so I don't know anything about how to get php to show these errors, since the simple phpinfo.php file works (but admittedly it doesn't really do anything). RPM package wish list

hello, Does our beloved Centos project have a page where one can request that an RPM package be built, especially for C5? How about alerts when those requests have been satisfied? I know about 3rd party repos like rpmforge, epel, and kbextras. I can search those in YUM. Centos seems to have specialized as a server OS in the past, but my experience is that it is an up and coming desktop/workstation OS too. Many folks might like to see packages built that are more Desktop oriented, which are not available in upstream, nor in the 3rd party repos. thanks for your info, Mark --------------------------------- Moody friends. Anaconda Partial Freeze...

Hey, I'm trying to run a kickstart script on a new piece of hardware... I've never used this HW before, so it's possible that there may be something faulty... After the DVD boots, I type "linux ks=http://blah/blah.ks" and hit enter. Once I get to the anaconda line which says "running /sbin/loader", the machine sits in a frozen state for a long time (3-5 minutes)... anyone have any clue what's going on here? Or at least how to debug it? It's too early to switch tot he other terminals, so I'm a little lost. I've tired testing the RAM and reseating, etc... nothing seems to works. - G.

Logwatch for postfix

On CentOS5 with the latest updates applied, the logwatch filter for postfix returns way too many lines from the log. I get an "unmatched entries" message and all messages that have gone through the system is listed. Here is an example: 8F930A8092: to=<morten(a)foo.bar>, orig_to=<morten@localhost>, relay=local, delay=0.19, delays=0.06/0.01/0/0.12, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (delivered to command: /usr/bin/procmail) I have tried to look at the logwatch config and some google hits on similar problems but on debian. The hints there does not match what is relevant for CentOS. Anyone seen this problem on CentOS or is it some specific problem to my configuration? I use fetchmail/postfix/dovecot/procmail locally on the server to consolidate mail. Buggy SATA detection w/CentOS5 + Intel H6300ESB?

I've been handed a Supermicro system that is using the Intel® H6300ESB Serial ATA Controller (Supermicro P4SCI motherboard). When I install CentOS5, everything seems to work OK, but it has absolutely horrid disk performance. Upon further inspection, it seems that the SATA disks are being treated as legacy IDE devices using PIO. Gah.... Has anyone else had this problem? I recall having similar problems last year sometime with some Supermicro systems, but I can't seem to remember how I fixed it. :-) Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Best,

change md uuid?

I sometimes clone working machines by separating RAID1 mirrors and letting each re-sync with a new partner in different machines. What will happen if a mismatched pair of these drives ever end up together in the same machine? If there is any chance that they would automatically be paired, is there a way to change the uuid when moving to a new machine so that wouldn't happen? -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell(a)gmail.com

rootpw and graphical mode?

Is there some kind of caveat to using the rootpw --iscrypted directive and then specifying a graphical install? I always seem to get the prompt coming up... If I remove the graphical and do a text install, it works fine and if I remove the --iscrypted and put a plain-text password in there, it works as well. Any suggestions? - G
