GStreamer Plugins for Apple QuickTime .mov files

I have a requirement to view a .mov file on my CentOS workstation and Totem reports that it requires a plugin. Does anyone here know which plugin package from gstreamer.freedesktop.org contains the necessary codec? I seem to have a choice between gst-plugin-ugly and gst-plugin-bad, two highly inviting names. Automatic User Based Mounts

Let's say I have a Samba server for my file serving needs. Would there be any way to configure CentOS to automatically mount a few specified partitions as the user logging in? Something of the nature of /mnt/home, /mnt/pictures, /mnt/music and so forth. They need to be mounted as the current user, and I prefer not to customize shell based login scripts. Can this be done through fstab somehow? Or some other method? I can make, and currently utilize, SMB share links on my desktop for accessing them. However, when applications want to open or save directly to the file system, I'm unable to reach the network shares. In the grand scheme of things, this makes having network shares pretty much useless. There must be a better way? Thanks, Scott

Can not print with OpenOffice.Org on CentOS 5.0 x86

I can not print any document with OpenOffice.Org Writer on CentOS 5.0 x86. Has anyone encountered this problem? My printer is HP Deskjet 3745 and apparently uses the hplip and hpijs packages provided by CentOS.

Here's a thought: what about doing an lsof? If a file is still being written by ftpd it should be open for writing. You may be able to get the list of files to process using 'find'. If you check using "-mmin +X", you might be able to get only files that haven't been updated in X minutes. That should filter out anything in progress. If a transfer is stopped in the middle, then restarted later, that wouldn't help here. It's possible that the FTP daemon might not update this information, so you'll have to expieriment. CentOS 5 Boot Issues

Hi all, I am still having problems with my desktop system. Having updated it from 4 to 5, I now have problems with the logs. Neither boot.log nor dmesg has any data post the update. syslog appears to be normal in that it starts when it should but does not show any errors. It looks like whatever is supposed to write to the logs during initial boot is not doing so, but I am not sure where to look to see what is wrong. The other problem I have may or may not be related it is not notifying me when updates are available although Yum etc appear to be working correctly. I have all the data backed up and I could do a fresh install, but I am trying to avoid this as I would have to spend a lot of time reinstalling software etc. Any suggestions? Thanks Rob

HP DL585 - CentOS4.5 - kix woes

Hi Well we are now using HP instead of Dell and have hit a major hurdle. We dont seem to be able to kix any of these boxes. I have been most recently trying on a dl585 and the issue appears to be that the kix kernel does not detect any nic. Its strange as the box can be installed using iso's and the nic appears as eth0: Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5706 1000Base-T (A2) PCI-X 64-bit 100MHz found at mem fa000000, IRQ 209, node addr 001a4bedcf1c bnx2: eth0: using MSI which seems a pretty standard nic to me - has anyone been able to kix new hp kit recently using 4.5 ?? thanks

ISDN on CentOS

Hi Folks, I'm using ISDN-Connections extensively because ADSL is not available. So far it works fine "out of the box" (CentOS 5 PAE). Two questions: 1. for which the fcpci-kernel-modules from atrpm-Repo are useful? 2. Whats about channel bundling? Does CentOS bundling automaticly on every established connection (if it is selected in Network-Configuration) or is it only set/unset with the isdnctrl addlink/removelink ippp0 command? Thats very important because there is no flat-rate on this ISDN-Connection. I intend the use of channel bundling only for remote-access The "simple" user on the connected window-workstations shall not use channel-bundling for surfing. (ISDN is on the server with samba / squid). It's difficult for me to test it because I have only remote-access to this server (start/restart of the ISDN-Connection) Thanks for any hints Timothy

Tomcat 6 and native lib

Hello, have somebody get the Tomcat 6 native lib to build? When I try to run ./configure --with-arp=/usr/bin/apr-1-config under /opt/apache-tomcat-6.0.14/bin/tomcat-native-1.1.10-src/jni/native I only get the error: configure: error: cannot find install-sh or install.sh in build ./build Any ideas how to to resolve this? Thanks
