(so should be good for about a year) The P5K-VM I was able to setup as AHCI in bios which is why I was able to get as far as I did. But there was no setting to do the same with the P5KC even though I had the latest BIOS. I still need to get the P5K-VM setup and since it is a server I would still like to use Centos. Screensave issue in Centos 4.5

Hi! I've got a Centos 4.5 box at work. I recently got a new LCD monitor and since that time have been having screen saver problems (they might have been occurring with the older CRT too but if so I didn't notice.) I've set it up to use "blank screen" only, to go to black screen in 20 minutes. Then I set up powersave to progress through the three modes at short intervals so that after an hour the display should be powered off. If I sit there and watch it (say, e.g. I'm busy doing paperwork and don't use the computer for a while :) it'll do exactly that, i.e., the display goes OFF. So, I leave at the end of the day. When I come in the next morning the screen is NOT powered off, the power light is on (not yellow, not off) and every little while an OSD window pops up saying it's getting no video signal. So, somewhere between going off in the short-term and being idle for 12-14 hours overnight, something goes awry and the display appears to get turned back on. Anyone got any idea how I can figure this one out? I have very similar settings at home (now on Centos 5, but also previously on Centos 4.5) and have not observed that behavior. Different computer, different video card, different monitor, though I don't see what difference it should make.... LD_ASSUME_KERNEL library issues CentOS 5 x86_64

I'm trying to get the Syspro/Encore MRP software running on a new CentOS 5 x86_64 system which uses an ODBC package built with old glibc/errno libraries. I have this same software running on a Suse Linux Enterprise 9 SP3 system using LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1, but when I try this on CentOS 5 it results in many unidentified libraries including libc.so.6, librt... etc. My guess is that there are packages that support these compatibility libraries, and, silly me, I thought these might be in the compat-glibc package, but that doesn't work. Taking file from pyhsical disk to new virtual disk

Hi I am playing with virtualization on centos 5. I have an old redhat 7 system I still need so I want to virtualize it. I found the old disk, installed in the virtual environment but found I had done some additions WAY back. I want to be sure my virtual system is exactly the same as the ACTUAL system. Do I use cpio on the actual system to grab everything and then put that back on the virtual system? What would the format of the command be to grab it and extract it? I have never used cpio and dont want to screw something up. Is there a better way? Jerry

Bandwidth optimisation

OS: CentOS 5.0 x86. Hi, I am using CentOS 5.0 at home, ADSL ~16 Mbps/~1 Mbps Internet connection and my ping time to my ISP is 160-170 msec. When downloading something with Firefox, I am getting download speeds of about 100-180 KB/sec (for example when downloading SP2 of XP from MS server). Are the CentOS networking settings OK for this kind of latency, or do I have to change some settings? Thanks in advance.
