Replacement for Linux-HA (heartbeat) - RedHat cluster?

Hello, I'm beginning to give up on making Linux-HA's heartbeat work for my environment (CentOS x86_64) and am wondering what other option have I got to help me: 1. Use IPVS to maintain a cluster of virtual servers, either master/slave or load-balanced. 2. Use DRBD in master/slave fashion to keep a home-grown application highly-available. The first thing I stumbled upon is RedHat Cluster Suite ( http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/centos_linux_guides/centos_cluster_c…), from which I also saw some packages on my CentOS servers. I've never heard of it before and am just starting to dig its docs, but if someone here can confirm/deny that this is a possible route to take it might save me some time or doubts. Thanks, --Amos

Centos 5.1 distro: How to upgrade 5.0 to 5.1 with yum??

Hi, Redhat announced RHEL 5.1 on Nov 07, so hopefully CentOS 5.1 will be ready shortly. But I get kind of nervous of the arrival of 5.1. My problem is: I have hundreds Centos 5.0 boxes just finished installation and I will continue to install and upgrade hundreds more in next few months. With the arrival of Centos 5.1, I don't like to reinstall them anymore but continuous upgrade instead -- if this is possible? Currently I download the Centos 5.0 upgrade packages from mirror sites on Internet (.../centos/5/updates/{SRPMS,i386,x86_64}/...), with the arrival of Centos 5.1, are the existing Centos 5.0 update packages will be removed in honor of Centos 5.1 updates? or it will stay? And how about the Centos 5.1's default packages in distro? Give an example here: 2.6.18-8.1.15 version kernel is the most recently updated kernel for Centos 5.0 distro, if the Centos 5.1 distro comes with 2.6.18-8.1.10000 kernel and in the first few weeks there are no kernel updates for 5.1, then how can I upgrade my kernel to 2.6.18-8.1.10000 naturally -- will the 2.6.18-8.1.10000 shows in the same update sources directories(.../centos/5/updates/{SRPMS,i386,x86_64/...)? A similar question is: are the update diretories contains only updates for 5.1 distro, or both 5.0 and 5.1? Dell Wireless WLAN Card Utility - mini-pci wireless card 1390

Is there any way I can find a driver and/or get the above wireless card working in CentOS 5 on my Dell laptop (Inspiron 1501). I've installed ipw2200 from RPMForge, but it now appears that this won't work because the card is not an Intel PRO/Wireless card. Dell seem to support only MS Windows Vista now so I don't think there's much chance of getting a driver from them - so am I on a fruitless 'crusade' in trying to get wifi in CentOS 5 in this case? Any helpful advice much appreciated please? Thanks, Andy

Conexant fax/modem not faxing with sendfax

I finally picked up a "real" modem (not a winmodem) and put it in my machine. I pulled down the hsfmodem driver from the source, got a license and installed the driver at full power. If I use wvdial, I can get out through the modem, so I know that works. There are a few such programs floating around. Do you confine yourself to CentOS packages? denyhosts is apparently a good one. Personally, I don't use any - once I moved to a non-standard port I've never seen anyone knocking on my SSH server's door. --Amos

By any chances, have you ran 'ps ax' from root and looked to see what does not look like it should be there?? IF you are willing, paste your 'ps' output for us to help you find the program that is running and sending out the emails. also review your sendmail rule set. Next, to help lock down your server a little more make sure you have set a password on your VNC. I had and Italian 17 year old poking around one of my Amateur Radio boxes via VNC, simply cause I forgot to set a vnc password, so it was wide open like a windoz server box without a login screen, you know, the good old "I AM OPEN FOR YOUR PLEASURES..." Also change your sshd, the port it is on, and do a rule set that only allows a specific ip to access it. I think I am correct saying you can do that as well with VNC. The other option would be to stop the service all together IF your not needing it. Good Luck. Evans F. How to delete mails in the mailq in ONE DAY -- POSTFIX

I am runnig posfix on Centos 4.4 as a Mailgateway. It only accepts mails for domains and then forwards mails to Lotus domino Server. All clients sends outgoing mails to that Lotus domino Server. Then , That Lotus Domino Server sends mails to Postfix mailgateway. This postfix mailgateway sends mails to all the destinations. But, This Postfix mailgateway has about 150 messages in the mailq. Some are unwanted mails. I think they keep trying until 5 days old. I want decrease it to ONE DAY. In Sendmail, this can be done by editing sendmail.mc as below. (`confTO_QUEUERETURN', `5d')dnl changing above line to below line (`confTO_QUEUERETURN', `1d')dnl How Can I do it in Postfix? ANY IDEA? O Timeout.queuereturn=5d -- Thank you Indunil Jayasooriya

centos remote installation

Hello I am installing Centos from remote location and have no problem if I upgrade Centos, however if I will have problem if I go through fresh installation, because once the fresh installation finished,at next reboot Centos will ask to define another user name with its pasword and that will be the time I will not see the console messages, so I should automate that part. Is there any easy way to do this or I should go all the way through Kickstart procedures ? Thanks

special tricks for developers box on centos 5

I was just wondering if there are special tricks people do that compile A LOT on centos? Do RAM disks help or something else I dont about that minimizes your compile time? I presently have and AMD x2 4800+ with 2GIG ram. Just curious if I can reduce any more time out of my compiles. Jerry
