Going back to old kernels?

As the latest 4.5 kernel (2.6.9-55.0.12.EL) is unstable for me (crashes about once a day) I want to go back to the rock solid kernel that I had before the update (2.6.9-34.0.2.EL). If nothing else then to confirm it's not a kernel problem. Are there any current packages that might not work with this older kernel? As kernels don't get updated but installed the old kernel is still there and I would just need to change the grub.conf. Anything else? As this is a remote machine I would at least need to be able to login via ssh if not everything is ok. Thanks. Kai -- Kai Schätzl, Berlin, Germany

postfix smtpd error

Vmware Server on Centos 5.1

Hi all, I am running some Centos 5.0 x86_64 servers as host os for vmware server 1.0.3 on both Opteron and Xeon systems. They are all running fine and stable. But now I am in doubt to upgrade to 5.1. Has any one done that yet, upgraded his vmware hosts with Centos/RHEL 5.0 to 5.1 ? tia + best regards, matthias

CentOS on Laptops

Sorry this question is not directly linked but has anyone ever bought a laptop from www.laptopplaza.com or www.stop4wholesale.com, I want to buy one for CentOS and they seem to have good deals. Are they genuine and are there any sites out there that sell laptops and ship worldwide?

Yum update wants to overwrite newer app package

This is probably a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway (I do that - you all know... :-). Due to a bug I found in OOo 2.0, I moved to using OOo 2.3, back when I was still running CentOS 5.0. Now that I have upgraded to 5.1, yum wants to update my OOo from 2.3 BACK to 2.0. Is it possible to get yum to recognize that 2.3 is newer than 2.0, or should I just exclude OOo from the updates? How do you backup a LVM LV?

I have a virtual machine in a Xen LV, that I would like to backup from hostA to hostB because hostA is software broken. How do I copy and recreate that LV on hostB? Greets, Chris

Dear All, I am still new to iptables and need some clarification and My Current Setup is CentOS 4.4 I need to implement some sort of transparent proxy server for the rsync protocol. (In case you don't know: rsync uses tcp and the standard port 873). I want to port forward the rsync client request to server2 from server1 and Details are given below 1. I am Execute the rsync command from client to server1 (192.168.13.165:8888 i.e with dummy port number ) 2. In Server1 192.168.13.165 will redirect the rsync request from client to sever2 (192.168.13.205 with default port number) 3. captive portal

Hello, Forgive the cross-posting, but googling showed results from these two lists. I'm looking to set up a WiFi gateway with two nics, and iptables. The catch is i have to use a captive portal as well to ensure all traffic goes to a single destination. I've read about several packages, but haven't seen any docs that say how to integrate everything. If anyone has this setup i'd appreciate knowing what software your using, and experiences with it, positive or negative. Thanks. Dave.

Strange GUI/GNOME Lockups

First, a hello to all! I recently moved to CentOS from Fedora on my primary desktop due to a desire to have a highly reliable stable desktop that would be supported long term without constant upgrades. I'll keep my laptop Fedora to see what's new, but I wanted CentOS to be my ultimate "stable" workstation. However, since installing CentOS 5.1 I have been plagued by a strange problem I haven't seen in ANY other distro I've ran on this PC, including a RHEL 5 30 Day Demo that prompted me to install CentOS in the first place. My GUI (GNOME desktop BTW) will randomly have strange little lockups or freezes where I can't interact with any windows or use any menus or applets. SOMETIMES I can ctrl+alt+arrow to another workspace to free it up, but just now I had to ctrl+alt+backspace to free it up. There is nothing strange in /var/log or the system logs. It just simply freezes. I'm hoping that someone would have some kind of suggestion, or even where to start looking for a solution, as I REALLY want CentOS to be my FT OS on this machine. Thanks in advance for any help.
