Complex sendmail alias handling.

Hi all: I have a situation where I need to change the distribution of emails for selected accounts on a regular basis. This is for the controlling of the distribution of our "support" email address. In the past I just created a "alias.bas" file to hold the bulk of our aliases and then 3 "support" alias files, alias.wkd, alias.evn and alias.wed (for weekday, evening and weekend day distribution lists) and then used crontab entries to cat the base file and one of the "support" files into the alias file and run newaliases. This worked fine while everyone was working on an 0800-1600 schedule but now we have one person that will be working on an 0600-1800 schedule a few days per week. This is going really muck up my simple little procedures. I was wondering if anyone out there new of something short of an automatic email receiving and routing package (which I have not done any research on) that might fit my simple requirements. Failing that can anyone recommend an automatic email receiving and routing package that is not to difficult to setup? scsi drive assignment problem

I have a server which may or may not have a USB storage device connected when it boots. It also attaches to a disk array with a number of logical disks using ISCSI. When booted with the USB device present, that is attached to /dev/sdb and the ISCSI disks are attached to /dev/sdc up. If the USB device is not present, then the ISCSI disks are attached to /dev/sdb onwards. Is there a way to force the USB device not to be attached at all, or to delay it until after the ISCSI disks have been attached so that I get a predictable assignment of device names to the ISCSI disks? DISAATER RECOVERY PROBLEM

Hi Guys, I am trying to set up a quick disaster recovery methodology for a client. It is supposed to work as follows:- All Data files , everything in /etc (except for a few hardware specific files such as fstab), all users .bashrc and .netrc files, all cron tables etc. is written to a DVD as a zipped tar file. A recovery script that unpacks this file, creates any directories required by the application that are not backed up etc. is also written to the DVD. The DVD is then mounted on a freshly installed system (Centos4.4 at present) and the restore script is run. This restors all the saved files on the DVD to their original positions and creates empty directories where required for the application to run. The recovery system is then rebooted and the differences in hardware are taken care of by "kudzu" removing hw that was present on the "old" system and installing hardware present on the "new" system - typically network cards, usb controllers, scsi controllers, IDE controllers and graphics cards. All of the above works perfectly. However when I then log in to the recovered system as a user via ssh, or directly on a tty (non-gui), the login process does not execute the instructions in the user's .bashrc file and I get a shell prompt with none of the required environmental variables set - also the last line in the .bashrc is an exec of a script that bring up the application - this does not happen. When I log in to the gui desktop as the user and then open a terminal screen the instructions in the .bashrc do get executed and the application runs as it should. Any ideas of where to look ? Building a UML image of CentOS 4.4

Problems with LDAP

Any compelling reasons to upgrade to 5

Just popped back on the list because I was curious about this. I've read the information about virtualization and other new features. I'm just wondering (as someone who installed CentOS 2 years ago and basically hasn't thought much about it my OS other than using it since then) if any piece of it except for virtualization got updated significantly enough to consider an upgrade. My machine right now is running great. Everything is just how I like it. Enhanced desktop search would be nice (but then I thought Beagle was Mono and thus not included). As would a nicer version of Gnome. But I'm just not sure if the jump is big enough to make it worth it. Anyone know? I'm getting that upgrade itch that comes from back in the days when I upgraded SuSE, Mandrake, Red Hat, Fedora, etc. every 6 months. Having a machine running solid for 2 years is weird for me and I'm getting that itch, but I'm wondering if there isn't any solid reason to bother with it. Preston

How to limit a user to access a few sites.

Hi , I am now running squid with ncsa_auth. I have bound ip addresses to usernames. So users now can access Internet from their ips. Now I want a few users to prevent from accessing all the sites. But Instead, I want them to allow to access a few sites scuh as google.com,cnn.com, bbc.com. I want to limit in that way. I have wriiten below rules. [root@worldnet squid]# cat /etc/squid/ip.conf 192.168.101.25 indunil .google.com .bbc.com .cnn.com 192.168.101.90 www90 Accoring to the above file, User indunil with ip address 192.168.101.25 has access to google.com,bbc.com and cnn.com. Here is what I've ordered for the new system: Case: Antec TX1050B, Mid-Tower Server Case MoBo: Intel D945GCL CPU: Intel Pentium-4 631 RAM: Aeneon 512 Mb 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM DIMM - DDR2 667 Disk: Hitachi 80 Gb SATA 3G Carrier: Vantec MRK-200ST-BK DVD: got one on the shelf I'm going to try Floppy: Sony MPF920-Z-121 My intention is to load CentOS-4 complete and use the system as a development/backup box. SCSI, SAS and FC Controller

Greetings, Currently, we have several Direct Attached Storage (DAS) units, connected to respective servers through Adaptec SCSI Controller. 1) Most of the time we used 80Mbit/s for external SCSI devices (in this case, the DAS itself). Is it true the maximum speed for external SCSI devices would be up to 80Mbit/s? Tried to change to 320Mbit/s but somehow the kernel crashed. Is there any specific reason why some (or all) external devices can only go up to 80Mbit/s? 2) We were thinking to use SAS or FC HBA for our next DAS but I'm not sure which brand/card does has the support in CentOS/Linux in terms of kernel module/driver,compatibility and performance. Can anyone give suggestions based on their experience? TIA. -Ikmal

Disabling selinux at boot command prompt

I noticed in 4.92 there is no disabling selinux at install. It is now a firstboot option which then requires a reboot. Is there anyway to disable selinux at the boot install prompt so after the firstboot screens it wont reboot again? I presently install with "linux askmethod" so I can select NFS install.
